(Your character has been assigned to an eight-hour Saturday detention in the school library. No one else knows why they are there, and none of the students know each other that well. They run in different cliques for the most part. You may only use one character and please refrain from using couples)

Helen Taylor was sitting in the passenger's seat while her father gave her a general lecture about her detention. Her father was not a soft-spoken man, yet this subject left him clammy and stuttering. He kept tapping his fingers along the steering wheel and avoiding looking at his daughter. It wasn't that Helen had detention-it was the reason. No one wanted to discuss the reason with Helen-the one person they should discuss it with.

When they finally pulled up to the school, Helen hooked her purse around her arm and prepared to leave. Yet, her daddy stopped her. For the first time in weeks, he touched her hand and looked her straight in the eyes. He even offered a smile. "You... You've got everything?" She nodded. "Pencils? Lunch? Phone?" Another nod. "Then... I'll be back at three?" Nod. Then Amos paused. Helen took that time to really look at him-the bags under his eyes, his swollen tear ducts, the misty look in his eyes that told her he would be crying soon enough. Seeing that made her guilty and sick. "... I love you, baby girl. I'll see you soon."

Flatly, but with a smile, she replied "I love you, too, dad." And then-far too fast-Helen pulled away and closed the door. She knew her father watched her walk up to the school, wishing he'd said something more meaningful but having been unable to find the words. He had no idea that Helen felt the same way. She hated being sick.

Alison put her head down, hiding behind her long ginger locks and hoping that nobody would see her as she walked down the stairs and headed towards the front door. As quietly as she possibly could, she opened the door and closed it behind her before letting out a sigh of relief. It was bad enough that she had detention on a Saturday, she didn't need the awkward silence and disappointed looks that she would have received had she gotten a ride from her mother as planned. She turned around before setting off down the road, only to see her mother stood on the drive with a stern look on her face and the car keys in her hand. "Allison. Inthe car. Now." She said slowly and clearly, making sure Allison heard her. Immediately, Allison headed for the back seat, the one furthest away from the driver's. She went to open the door when her mother closed it again. "In the front." She told her, with the same voice as before. Allison said nothing and did as she was told, looking at the ground the whole time. Her mother soon joined her in the car and they set off the school in complete silence as Allison had expected.

As they came closer to school, the anger and regret on her mother's face only became clearer. Allison had had detention tons of times before and never had her mother acted this way but, then again, the reason for her having detention had never been anywhere near as bad. It had now hottest to the point where her mother was so disappointed with what she had done that she couldn't bring herself to even talk about it. Her dad was also disappointed, and he had every right to be, but was far more understanding of it all, as was her sister, who, if she were in this situation, it would be exactly the same, only with her mother being the more understanding one and her father being the one too angry to speak to her. Neither of them knew why their parents were like this, they'd just learnt to get used to it although, thinking about it, Allison began to wish she received the same reaction that her sister did, her mother was far worse than her father when they were angry.

As she continued to think, time flew by in a flash and before she knew it, Allison had arrived at school. She left the car and began to walk into school but came to a stop when her mother winded down her car window. "I'll be back at 3." She said to Allison, and with that she drove off. "Whoopee" Allison thought to herself "I can't wait for that". She took her phone out of her pocket and checked the time, if she didn't set off soon she'd be late and so, she walked into the school building and made her way to the library, where they hold detention.
